Project Description:

When a natural gas water heater is ready for replacement, an attic installation deserves a careful look before the work begins. At this New Iberia home, two Rheem 40 gallon natural gas water heaters were documented in the attic so the replacement needs and surrounding connections could be evaluated.

One unit was manufactured in 2013 and the other in 2021. The attic setup included metal venting, gas control valves, flexible gas connectors, copper water piping, insulation, and a drain pan beneath one of the units. Reviewing those details helps the plumber plan for safe access, proper venting, secure connections, and the right replacement equipment.

Attic water heater work is about more than swapping tanks. The condition of the vent, gas connection, shutoff, water lines, drain pan, and available work space all matter when planning the job.
